At Alterme Home, every fabric is selected for its quality, feel and suitability for real homes. From natural linens and cosy wools to durable cottons and outdoor blends, our materials are sourced from trusted UK and European mills and crafted with care. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about each fabric — where it comes from, how it behaves, and how to care for it.

Linen

  • Our linens are sourced from UK mills and celebrated for their natural slubs, gentle bobbles and subtle imperfections — the hallmarks of true linen. These characteristics give each piece a rustic, organic charm that feels beautifully unique.

    We also offer a small collection of exclusive in‑house printed linens, including Blossom, Hedgerow, Kitchen Garden Oak Leaf, My Dad’s Landy and Woodland Walk. Each design begins as a hand‑painted artwork created by Jasmine and printed onto UK‑milled linen.

  • Linen brings a timeless softness and airy lightness to your home. It’s breathable, fresh and perfect for spring and summer styling, adding a relaxed, natural elegance to any space.

  • Linen is delicate and will soften, slub and relax over time. For bench seat cushions, we recommend choosing our natural or heavier‑weight linens for better durability.

    • Hand wash cool or dry clean

    • Never use bleach

    • Blot small stains with cold soapy water

    • Expect up to 8% shrinkage when washed

Cotton

  • Our cottons come from UK mills and are slightly thicker, giving cushions a beautiful structure and polished finish. Cotton is a timeless, versatile choice for any interior.

  • Cotton is durable, easy to care for and ideal for busy homes. Most cottons can be washed at 40°C — perfect for spills, sticky fingers and everyday living.

  • Printed cottons may fade gently over time, but they remain one of the most durable options for hardworking spaces.

    • Hand wash cool or dry clean

    • Some cottons can be machine washed; Wash at 30–40°C

    • Avoid harsh stain removers on printed cotton

    • For stains, blot with washing‑up liquid and baking soda

Wool

  • Our wools are sourced from premium Italian mills, chosen for their exceptional quality and luxurious feel. They take a little longer to arrive — but they’re worth the wait.

  • Wool is naturally hard‑wearing and temperature‑regulating, making it perfect for cosy winter styling and cool summer comfort. Even Buddy the spaniel approves — it’s his favourite fabric to curl up on.

  • Wool may develop bobbles over time due to friction. These can be easily removed with a lint shaver or wool comb.

    • Always dry clean professionally

    • For stains, allow them to dry and gently brush with a wool brush

Outdoor Fabric

  • Our outdoor fabrics are made by trusted UK manufacturers and chosen to complement our main living range — creating a seamless flow from indoors to outdoors.

  • Water‑resistant, stain‑resistant and fade‑resistant, this fabric is perfect for alfresco dining, garden seating and sunny patios. It’s also ideal for indoor bench cushions in busy areas like kitchens.

  • Outdoor cushions should be brought inside during harsh weather. Feather inners can become damaged if left outside for long periods.

    • Wipe clean with a damp cloth

    • Add washing‑up liquid for tougher stains

    • Removable covers can be washed at 30°C
